Description
The role of the the Senior Accountant, is well-suited for an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills, exceptional motivation, and a keen focus on details and precision. A successful senior accountant combines strong analytical abilities with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles to handle financial transactions, prepare financial entries, reconcile accounts, and analyze financial reports. The ideal candidate should also possess experience collaborating within a team to complete monthly and annual financial closings. As part of their responsibilities, the Senior Accountant assists the Controller and CFO in generating effective management reports by conducting ongoing and ad hoc analyses of operational results.
Presently, this position operates in a hybrid manner, requiring periodic on-site work at our Reston office (no more than 2-3 times per month)
Financial and Grant Transaction Functions:
Collaborate with Financial Planning to ensure accurate alignment of budget and actual financial results and address grant-related inquiries on an ad-hoc basis.
Prepare all grant cash, staff allocation, and revenue entries, ensuring accurate financial statement reporting for Grant service lines.
Validate and post daily lockbox, ACH, and credit card customer payments, while investigating and reconciling any discrepancies.
Perform monthly reconciliation of unpaid invoices for Verification Services and Transcript Ordering in Intacct AR.
Prepare monthly deferred revenue reconciliations and review and reconcile all revenue schedules and partner payments.
Accounts Payable (AP) Function:
Prepare and enter necessary monthly closing entries for payroll, employee benefits, and accrued expenses.
Reconcile and prepare monthly surcharges, ensuring accurate and timely payment of all surcharge obligations.
Direct and manage AP Workflow, ensuring proper coding and approval for all invoices and accurate posting in the accounting system, Intacct.
Review and process all Concur expense reports.
Prepare monthly AP aging and accrued expense reconciliation reports.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
CPA certification or actively pursuing CPA certification.
2+years of experience in general accounting and a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Advanced knowledge of Excel.
Familiarity with grant regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to Federal and foundation grant funding and programs.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and effectively within a team.
Proficient in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Strong time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
Demonstrates a professional, positive, and personable demeanor.
Exhibits the company's core competencies: customer focus, optimizing work processes, effective communication, collaboration, and openness and authenticity.
Resides within a reasonable commuting distance of Reston, VA
Preferred qualifications
CPA certification.
Experience with Sage Intacct.
Proficiency in Concur administration.
Familiarity with Avalara sales tax reporting software.
Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to not-for-profit organizations.
