Assistant Controller - Work/ Life Balance Growing Team - Bonus Eligible!

Immediate opening for growing Private Equity investment company! Reporting to the Controller and CFO, this newly created Assistant Controller position will help direct the accounting close, financial statements and daily accounting operations. Ideal candidate will come from private equity, private investment or asset management background. This permanent employment opportunity is based in the Richmond, Virginia area.

Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Progressive preparation and coordination of fiscal year-end audits

  • Sustain implementation and secure adherence to accounting policies and procedures

  • Backfill for Controller if necessary

  • Push accountability and the meeting of deliverables

  • Support to ensure a competent, trained staff through development, regular assessment, and goal setting

  • Steer the accounting team during the closing process to warrant deadlines are met

  • Come up with relevant and timely reports on financial data analytics like key financial metrics, the monthly flash report, and actual spend against budgets/outlook

  • Partake in the preparation of GAAP financial statements, including budgeting and forecasting

  • Discern and establish process improvements to streamline reporting and improve team efficiency

  • Arrange numerous policies, procedures, and technical accounting analyses

  • Guarantee regular account reconciliation to completion

  • Inspect and make Ad Hoc financial reports

    Requirements - Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

    • Remarkable accounting experience, including as a Bookkeeper preferred

    • Significant experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems

  • 5+ years of general ledger accounting experience

  • CPA a plus

  • Strong technical background in public accounting (GAAP)

  • Ability to multitask and communicate well with individuals of all backgrounds

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • Skilled in analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting

  • Investment Accounts experience highly preferred

  • Adeptness in Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  • Solid understanding of month end closings

  • Federal Income Tax Return experience preferred

  • General familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Proficiency in US GAAP

  • Practical knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Annual External Audit experience highly desired

  • Background working with Private Equity

  • Financial statement preparation experience preferred
