Robert Half Staff Accountant in Richmond, Virginia
Description We are offering an exciting opportunity in the construction/contractor industry, situated in Richmond, Virginia, 23228, United States. We are seeking a Staff Accountant who will play a crucial role in our financial management, including the processing and recording of financial transactions, reconciliation of bank statements, and maintenance of fixed asset and prepaid schedules.
Responsibilities:
• Employ appropriate systems and processes to record daily and monthly transactional activities
• Facilitate the month and year-end close cycles, including the preparation of financial statements and departmental reports
• Conduct reconciliations for all bank statements and balance sheet accounts, including prepaids, inventory, fixed assets, and accrual accounts, to ensure data accuracy
• Manage fixed asset and prepaid schedules
• Use software tools to maintain lease schedules and ensure proper reporting, adhering to ASC 842 – Lease Accounting
• Assist in ensuring proper revenue recognition across businesses, in accordance with ASC 606 – Revenue Recognition
• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns, as well as various state/local business filings, to maintain good standing for all businesses
• Perform research and interpret data to provide guidance and answer queries
• Respond to information requests from leadership and external auditors
• Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers to meet the goals of the Accounting Department
• Develop and continually improve reporting and accounting functions to streamline processes and enhance efficiency
• Maintain systems and processes to ensure compliance and adherence with appropriate procedures, in line with company policies and US GAAP Requirements
• Must possess skills in Accounts Payable (AP)
• Proficiency in Accounts Receivable (AR) is required
• Candidates must have experience in Bank Reconciliations
• General Ledger management skills are necessary
• Knowledge and experience in creating Journal Entries is required
• Ability to perform Month End Close efficiently is essential
• Familiarity with Oracle software is an advantage
• QuickBooks proficiency is a must for this role
• Previous experience in the construction or contractor industry is preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required
• Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary
• A keen eye for detail and accuracy is crucial
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Excel and other accounting software.
