Robert Half Finance is seeking candidates who have a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department, for a Controller position at a reputable construction company. The ideal candidate for this Controller position can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. You will succeed in this position if you can lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when providing client services. The ideal candidate for this position is a creative team player with a talent for challenging the status quo, coming up with unique ideas, negotiating and influencing.
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties
Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly interval
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
Excellent attention to detail
Able to meet business deadlines
Expertise in cash flow management and job costing a must
Budget forecasting experience desired
Proficiency in construction and/or property management industries highly desired
Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus
Prior work done in public accounting is desired
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
Demonstrated ability in strong analytical, quantitative and social skills
Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
