Robert Half Senior Counsel in ROSEMONT, Illinois


Robert Half Legal is partnering with a rapidly growing corporation operating in the environmental solutions industry that is looking to hire a Senior Counsel with at least 5-7+ years of experience to become the first in-house attorney for the company. This Senior Counsel will be groomed to become the General Counsel. This Senior Counsel will be responsible for a managing the legal function including assisting with commercial contracts management, labor/union collective bargaining matters, employment & HR matters, equipment leases, and some general corporate legal matters. The salary for this position is between $180-200K plus a 25% bonus target and full benefits. In addition, this position will be working 100% REMOTE. The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of experience working in-house and have experience with a unionized company. Senior Counsel Responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day complex legal matters where considerable legal judgment, experience, and/or independent reasoning is required.

  • Review and advise on a broad range of legal matters including, but not limited to, employment, leases, risk assessment, safety, etc.

  • Support the organization as needed with assistance and communications related to contract drafting, review, completion, and compliance.

  • Lead collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

  • Draft and negotiate various complex agreements, such as (but not limited to) Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA), Consulting Agreements, Vendor Agreements, etc.

  • Develop and supervise the maintenance of legal template documents to be utilized by the Company.

  • Oversee all litigation including, but not limited to, contract disputes, employment, and safety.

  • Assist with providing legal advice to Human Resources when necessary.

  • Perform ongoing analysis to anticipate and guard against potential legal risks.

  • Establish and implement processes and procedures for all legal aspects of the Company including, but not limited to, HR, Fleet, Safety, etc.

  • Lead and/or assist with Mergers and Acquisition matters.

  • Maintain and update corporate records as required.

  • Assist with maintaining state registrations with outside vendors (where applicable).

  • Manage outside counsel effectively, efficiently, and consistent with applicable budgets. Work creatively with outside counsel to minimize fees and costs.

  • JD required

  • 5-7+ years of experience as an in-house counsel

  • Experience with Labor/Union collective bargaining

  • Experience with employment/HR matters

  • Experience with commercial contracts and equipment leases

  • Experience managing outside counsel

  • Experience assisting with M& A activities

  • Trucking/transportation industry experienced preferred or other similar very unionized industries
