Description Robert Half is actively searching for an earnest, resourceful Controller to join the innovative team at an prominent services company. This leadership role oversees an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the San Francisco, California area.

Responsibilities

  • Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation Requirements - CPA/MBA preferred

  • Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • The ideal candidate will be highly-skilled with exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Financial reporting experience

  • Well-founded grasp of treasury

  • Proven knowledge of cash management

  • Comprehensive knowledge of fund accounting

  • Expertise in property accounting

  • Deep understanding of Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Tax accounting experience

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and social skills

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
