Robert Half is recruiting a Legal Assistant for a civil litigation defense law firm in San Francisco (hybrid in-office and telecommute). This position supports two partners and two associates. There is a mix of legal secretarial and paralegal work in helping put together and e-file pleadings (including their tables of contents and tables of authorities) with state, Federal, and appellate courts, handle litigation docket calendaring (using AbacusLaw), some discovery review and responses, prepare for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, and other responsibilities.
Needs 7+ years of litigation legal assistant experience. Good experience with motion formatting (e.g., TOCs / TOAs) and e-filing is required. Pays $85,000 - 105,000/yr for 35-hour workweek and offers generous employment benefits (including 100% firm-paid medical, dental, vision insurance benefits, 401k Plan with 3% firm contribution, commuter costs reimbursement, good PTO, etc.).

Conducting routine discovery
10+ years of previous legal work experience and a dedication to integrity
Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
Knowledge of assisting attorneys, including scheduling appointments
General familiarity with state courts
Service of process experience required
Deep understanding of civil litigation
Practical knowledge of defense firm work
Basic grasp of filing with appellate courts
Wide ranging experience with exhibit lists
Solid experience in scheduling depositions
Comprehension of legal secretary responsibilities
Previous experience working in insurance defense litigation
Foundational knowledge in trial preparation
Quality experience with e-file
Solid understanding of drafting answers
Skills in completing Judicial Council forms
Hands-on experience with preparing memoranda
Proven knowledge of federal courts and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
Court filings experience required
Prior experience with preparing pleadings
Experience with litigation paralegal work
Foundational knowledge in state and federal civil procedure
Proficiency in state, local, and municipal law
Earlier work involving preparing evidence summaries
Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas
Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases
