The medical records clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of patient medical information, which is essential for effective healthcare delivery. Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and organize patient medical records, both physical and electronic
Ensure accurate and timely entry of patient data, including demographics, diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes
Retrieve and prepare medical records for healthcare providers, patients, and other authorized parties
Protect the confidentiality and security of sensitive patient information
Assist with filing, scanning, and archiving of medical documents
Collaborate with the healthcare team to resolve any discrepancies or issues with patient records
Comply with all relevant healthcare regulations and policies regarding medical record management
Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other healthcare software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
Basic understanding of medical terminology and healthcare procedures
Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Work Environment and Schedule:
Typically works in a healthcare facility, such as a hospital, clinic, or medical office
Regular business hours, with potential for occasional evening or weekend shifts
Primarily desk-based work, with some standing and walking required
Collaborative environment, working closely with healthcare providers and administrative staff
