Description

Real Estate investment company, located in San Mateo is looking for a Controller who will work in the San Mateo office and will work closely with senior leadership, operations, asset management, acquisitions, and various third parties to develop financial and accounting procedures to ensure best practices and mitigates financial risks. This role will report directly to the COO.

Key Functions

· Supervise Fund Administrator for the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP basis financial statements. Analyze unusual transactions and significant variances and recommend actions to the COO. Prepare quarterly financial reporting package and create ad hoc analyses.

· Prepare internal audit packages. Supervise Fund Administrator on annual Fund audits. Provide ad hoc schedules to auditors as requested. Prepare quarterly tax package and make payments on entities that have elected to participate. Work with tax preparers to have federal, state and local income tax returns, K-1s, etc. completed. Prepare and file personal property and sales tax returns.

· Provide financial, accounting, tax and other analytical assistance, as requested, to assist in developing and structuring transactions in accordance with the Company’s business plan and debt facilities.

· Supervise the preparation of the monthly borrowing base reports and quarterly compliance reports for bank credit facilities and review with COO before submitting. Provide information to CEO and COO on debt facilities regarding projected needs.

· Analyze capital availability and capital needs and make recommendations to the CEO and COO regarding investor capital calls and distributions. Approve monthly bank line interest statements. Monitor cash receipts and disbursements and transfer cash between checking and money market accounts. Invest excess cash or pay down bank line or distribute to investors. Supervise the reconciliation of bank accounts monthly.

· Update Fund budgets monthly for actual cash flows and changes in budgeted future cash flows. Analyze updates for unusual activity and recommend action to COO.

· Directly oversee the preparation of all financial reporting.

· Review and approve quarterly REIT compliance testing performed by the Fund Administrator.

· Review monthly detailed trial balances to monitor transactions and investigate as needed. Record all transactions for Fund Management Companies.

Requirements

Qualifications

· CPA required

· BA/BS degree in Finance or Accounting; graduate degree a plus

· 10+ years of experience in corporate Real Estate finance related tasks, financial accounting, management accounting, financial analysis, forecasting, and treasury

· A good working knowledge of Federal, State, Local statutes and regulations, including GAAP

· General knowledge of tax concepts and tax practices including investor related tax matters

PLUS:

· Proficient in common private equity distribution calculations, waterfalls, is a plus

· Familiarity with commingled fund structures and servicing is a plus

· Familiarity with various investor related considerations including ERISA, UBTI, etc, is a plus

· Experience with real estate loan documents, provisions, and reporting, is a plus
