Description
You will be supporting the global business which spans Australia, USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Africa. While you will be backed by a truly collegiate and supportive team, you will have the confidence to deal directly with the most senior members of the business, third party service providers, external counsel and negotiate directly with clients. You will naturally become to “go to” counsel for our USA and Canadian teams. Given time zones, you will be the sole legal counsel in the business for a portion of your day; this provides you with exposure to autonomy and responsibility but does require that you are comfortable and confident to work autonomously for periods of time.
You will be responsible for giving advice covering a wide range of areas including:
· Reviewing, drafting and negotiating client contracts, which will also include foreign contracts, across a range of industry sectors.
· Providing legal support, drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements including NDAs, supplier agreements, consents, letters.
· Helping to manage and seek early commercial resolution of any disputes.
· Ensuring the delivery of accurate and commercial legal advice to the business across a range of disciplines.
· Identifying legal risks and identifying opportunities to provide legal input in line with business strategies.
While you will be a commercial lawyer at your core, there will be the opportunity to be involved in a range of disciplines including intellectual property, data and privacy, training, dispute resolution, employment and compliance and risk. We would support an interest in becoming a specialist in one or more of these areas.
Requirements - Strong analytical, written, and verbal skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
Strong negotiation skills and ability to interact with legal and business leaders internally and externally.
Demonstrated strategic approach to legal problem solving; Detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills.
Extensive experience in contract drafting and dealing with cross-border legal issues and transactions, preferably in a regulated financial services environment with experience in dealing with multiple regulatory frameworks in different jurisdictions.
Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience.
Strong understanding of U.S. regulatory compliance as it relates to financial services, financial crime, privacy, corporate governance and risk management.
Strong academic credentials with a J.D. from an accredited law school; attorney's license must be current, active and in good standing.
Minimum 8 years of practice in a law firm or in-house with a practice concentration in real estate, finance, entity formation and other commercial areas.
