You could become a Controller with a reputable Service company working with Robert Half, if you have a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department. You will succeed in this position if you can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. To succeed in this role, you will need to lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when providing client services. Candidates who are creative team players with a talent for challenging the status quo, coming up with unique ideas, negotiating and influencing will be preferred for this position. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Santa Monica, California area.

How you will make an impact

  • Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

    Requirements - Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Solid understanding of Yardi

  • Budget forecasting experience

  • General ledger experience preferred

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Strong attention to detail

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • Strong communication skills and able to receive criticism well

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
