Description
NACA Loan Counselors will wear various hats. They are mortgage loan originators, housing and financial counselors, underwriters, Member advocates, and willing participants in NACA protests and rallies.
A Day in the Life
- The Loan Counselor contacts individuals who have applied for a loan through the website (prospective member) to set up a 4-hour financial workshop on a Saturday.
-The Loan Counselor then hosts the workshop on Saturday and then schedules a follow up appointment with the prospective member for counseling if they are still interested.
-Next, the Loan Counselor meets with the prospective member at the counseling appointment. There they go over the individual’s finances, taxes, budget, and other items. The goal here is for the counselor to figure out whether the person is going to be a successful homeowner before awarding the loan.
-Finally, the Loan Counselor will analyze all the information and decide whether or not to award the loan.
-A few times a year, the Loan Counselor will be expected go to rallies and protests and will work during those events by setting up appointments with new prospective members.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
must not miss one day of training- no exceptions
must not have an active real estate license
must be good at math
must be willing to take a 45 minute questionnaire in addition to 2 assessments, and be willing to register for the web-based workshop that they will be performing (so that they can see what it is like)
must have a fire in their belly for NACA's cause and be willing to attend protests and rallies approx 3 times per year (not negotiable)
must be interested in learning the mortgage lending industry and take the tests to become licensed in MLO and HUD
must have a sales-type personality that doesn't mind that part of their wage is based on commission
must be ready and willing to undergo intense training. They learn everything and test to become licensed in the first week!! This is why they can't miss even one day of training.
SCHEDULE
Training Schedule: First 7 weeks of training is classroom - 9am to 630pm EASTERN.
Training weeks 8-12 (hands on) - 9am to 630pm LOCAL TIME
(Candidates cannot miss one day of training- no exceptions)
After Training/Regular Schedule: Week 13 onward - 830am to 6pm LOCAL TIME
2 late evenings per week
2 Saturdays per month for workshops (4 hours on Saturdays)
Required to attend/work/participate in protests and rally events (typically during 3 day weekends)
If Counselors are working on the weekends, their days off will be scheduled during the week
Experience in MS Word and Excel
