Major responsibilities

  • Manage voluntary deductions, as well as wage garnishments, pay levies, and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner, including reporting to the necessary authorities

  • Survey data entered by others in the payroll software to include, but not limited to salary/wage increases, benefit deductions, employee termination dates, and employee leaves of absence under FMLA or other unpaid leave

  • Collaborate with Information Technology, Human Resources, and other internal business partners to ensure security protocols for pay systems

  • Execute regular payroll reporting as required and assist with financial audits related to pay records and associated general ledger

  • Develop systems and protocols to direct the collection, calculation and entering of pay data

  • Warrant timely processing of payroll in accordance with labor regulations and standard accounting principles

  • Handle quarterly and year-end payroll reports

  • Comply with current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes and other required reporting

  • Explore payroll areas, pay practices related to FLSA, and fringe benefit reporting to determine how those practices apply to advise management

  • Facilitate staff with general questions related to payroll, other pay related issues, wage deductions, PTO accruals, and fringe benefits

  • Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training

  • Payroll, compensation, and piecework pay

  • Time and attendance

  • Onboarding new hires

  • Employee evaluations

  • Benefits, policies, and safety

  • Department budget


Required Skills:

  • Mission Driven-Hard working, helpful, thoughtful, team oriented and compelled to do what is right for others, the environment and for the world.

  • Bilingual in speaking, writing and translating Spanish and English is preferred; maybe took classes in college or high school so some familiarity and open to learning more/improving.

  • BA in Human Resources, Business Administration, Spanish and Business, Psychology, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Interest in plants, outdoors, people, wellness.

  • Strong math and writing skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Suite programs.

  • Valid driver’s license.
