Description This reputable company is seeking a Controller through Robert Half who has a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department. To succeed in this role, you will need to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Staunton, Virginia area.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Check deliverables of self and team to certify they meet client expectations

  • Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective

  • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies Requirements - Prior work done in public accounting is desired

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Quality experience with SOX

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Annual Budget

  • Well-founded grasp of Financial Forecast

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation experience

  • Deep understanding of month end closings

  • Balance Sheet Account experience preferred

  • Proven knowledge of revenue reporting

  • Annual Forecasts experience preferred

  • Wide ranging experience with Appropriations

  • Practical knowledge of SOX

  • General familiarity with Operating Metrics

  • Remarkable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
