Robert Half is helping a renowned services company find an ambitious candidate to fill the role of a Controller. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be responsible for accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller will be a permanent employment opportunity and will be located in the Sumter, South Carolina region.

Responsibilities

  • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

    Requirements - Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Strong communication and social skills

  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Credit Union

  • Solid understanding of financial statement preparation

  • Proficiency in Supervisory Oversight

  • Command of month end closings

  • Adeptness in Credit Union Policy

  • Regulatory reporting experience

  • Experience with Banking Industry

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
