Robert Half Accounting Specialist in Syracuse, New York

Description We are in need of an Accounting Specialist based in Syracuse, New York, to ensure the accuracy and completeness of our financial records. This individual will be part of a dynamic team in a workplace that values efficiency and precision. The role involves tasks such as creating budgets, forecasting expenditures, reconciling accounts, and generating financial reports. This position presents an opportunity for contract to hire employment.

Responsibilities:

• Reconcile accounts and take note of debits and credits that have not posted

• Assist in creating budgets and forecasting expenditures for projects

• Responsible for printing paychecks and initiating direct deposits to pay employees and assist with payroll as needed

• Generate financial reports as requested by the finance director

• Analyze variances and devise strategies to stay within budget

• Monitor spending and communicate to management any areas that put the program at risk for overspending or underspending

• Implement new or revised financial policies and systems for better financial management

• Collaborate with management staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of expenditures and program requests

• Sort and code invoices, post financial transactions, and reconcile statements from vendors

• Identify and correct errors that occur due to data entry

• Assist the Finance Director with all aspects of the agency’s fiscal operation in compliance with the Finance Policies & Procedures and GAAP

• Assist the Finance Director with providing necessary documents for the annual agency independent financial audit

• Responsible for filing tax returns

• Participate in agency staff meetings

• Perform these responsibilities with the understanding that responsibilities and tasks may be modified or expanded over time. Requirements • Proficient in Accounting Software Systems

• Experience with ADP - Financial Services

• Proficiency in Concur software

• Familiarity with Great Plains (GPAC)

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

• Strong understanding of Accounting Functions

• Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Knowledge of Billing Functions

• Experience in Check Processing.
