This reputable Healthcare, Hospitals, Social Assistance company is seeking a Controller through Robert Half Finance who has a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department. You will succeed in this position if you can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. This full-time position is for a Controller who will work in the Torrance, California region.

Your responsibilities in this role

  • Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

  • Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

  • Check deliverables of self and team to certify they meet client expectations

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

Requirements - Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Cost accounting experience

  • Standard costs experience

  • Well-founded grasp of Monthly Balance Sheet

  • Job costing experience highly desired

  • Processing costing experience preferred

  • Quality experience with Monthly Bank Reconciliation

  • Knowledge of Cost Allocation

  • Practical knowledge of Monthly Bank

  • General familiarity with Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  • Proven knowledge of Monthly Actual

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
