Description

Our client is a leading construction company specializing in large commercial projects in the Trevose, PA area. They are seeking a hands-on controller for a newly created role due to growth!

Job Responsibilities of the successful construction controller will include:

  • General Accounting:

  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes in compliance with GAAP standards.

  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with project managers and executives to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations for cost-saving opportunities.

  • Construction Accounting:

  • Manage job costing activities, including tracking labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

  • Calculate and report percentage of completion for ongoing projects, ensuring accurate revenue recognition.

  • Analyze budget-to-actual costs for construction projects and identify areas for cost control and profitability improvement.

  • Process and System Improvements:

  • Identify areas for process optimization and system enhancements to streamline accounting and financial operations.

  • Implement best practices for data integrity, workflow efficiency, and financial reporting accuracy.

  • Lead training sessions for accounting staff on new processes, systems, and accounting standards.

  • Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making on project investments, capital expenditures, and strategic initiatives.

  • Prepare and present financial reports and performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a construction accounting role.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles, financial reporting requirements, and internal controls.

  • Experience with construction accounting software and QuickBooks experience and strong intermediate MS Excel skills.

  • Track record of successfully leading month-end and year-end close processes, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a hands-on attitude and willingness to work on-site as needed.

  • Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Solid understanding of Construction Accounting

  • Account reconciliation experience highly preferred

  • GAAP Accounting experience

  • Job Cost experience highly desired

  • Earlier work involving QuickBooks

  • WIP - Work In Progress experience required

  • Practical knowledge of Cam Reconciliation

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Analyze Financial Statements

  • General familiarity with Consolidated Financial Statements

  • Foundational knowledge in US GAAP

  • Background working with budget forecasting

  • Adeptness in month end closings

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Notable analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
