Description Robert Half is seeking candidates who have a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department, for a Controller position at a reputable company. If you are good at planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff, this role might be right for you. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Walnut Creek, California region.

What you get to do every day

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals Requirements - Great attention to detail

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Excellent verbal, written, and social communication skills

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

  • Cash management experience

  • Solid understanding of budget forecasting

  • Business Banking Relationship experience

  • Profitability Analysis experience

  • Knowledge of financial reporting

  • Prior work done in public accounting is desired
