The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the garden City, New York region. Responsibilities include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. To succeed in this role, you will need to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. What you get to do every day

  • Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations

  • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

    Requirements - Detailed and have the ability work independently

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Accounting Theory experience highly preferred

  • General familiarity with Accounting Principles

  • Proficiency in Accounting cycle

  • Analyze Trends experience preferred

  • Accounting Control experience preferred

  • Background working with Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Experience with Accounting Entries

  • Earlier work involving ACCPAC

  • Solid understanding of account analysis

  • Hands-on experience with AIA Documents

  • Account reconciliation experience preferred

  • Adeptness in Accounting Functions

  • Prior experience with Analyze Variance

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Accounting operations

  • Comprehension of Accrued Liabilities

  • Practical knowledge of Accounting procedures

  • Accrued Expenses experience highly valued

  • Analyze Revenues experience desired

  • Good understanding of Accrual Accounting

  • Deep understanding of Sage 100

  • Previous experience working with accruals

  • Experience with AIA Billing

  • Analyze Financial Statements experience required

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Great written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
