Our client, a leading non-profit mission-based organization, is searching for their new Controller. This important role reports to a dynamic Chief Financial Officer who is known for mentorship and open lines of communication. This organization is busy expanding its operating reach and the ideal candidate will have experience in maintaining a system of effective controls while enabling business processes to scale. The Controller will also provide day to day and technical guidance to a team of 5 and other indirect reports. Core duties for this Controller position will include:

  • Mentoring, directing and guiding the corporate accounting team including financial reporting, accounting operations, general ledger accounting functions and account reconciliations

  • Maintaining overall responsibility for financial reporting, the month-end close, coordination of grant compliance, the annual external audit and Single Audit

  • Serving as main liaison to auditors during annual financial statement and Single Audit; assume overall responsibility for audit preparation

  • Responsibility for form 990 in collaboration with the other corporate level teams

  • Ensuring grant compliance and proper reporting for an array of funding sources including federal and state contracts as well as corporate sponsorships and other special agreements

  • Reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations and preparing adjusting entries as needed

  • Responsible for daily cash management to cover corporate and payroll funding

  • Coordinating with FP& A group and operations as needed to complete corporate level financial reporting and management package

  • Work closely with IT team to lead projects relating to corporate wide systems and processes, including needs gathering requirements and mapping.

  • Cross training staff, including both hands on day to day training and via courses as recommended

  • Closely supporting the CFO on special projects due to growth

  • BS in accounting, finance, or related area plus 10 years or more of experience including management of an accounting team

  • CPA required with prior public accounting experience as a plus

  • Solid knowledge of grants from federal agencies

  • Demonstrated experience in US GAAP and managing general ledger accounting, grants and contracts accounting

  • Prior experience overseeing federal grant related compliance as well as Single Audit requirements

  • Proven experience with various ERP systems and accounting software packages
