Description
Our client, well known, established and successful trade association, is recruiting for their new Director Finance. This exciting Director of Finance role will support a Vice President with strong tenure at the organization who is known to be a great mentor. The VP will also guide and support the transition for the new Director of Finance given their knowledge of the details of the position. There are plenty of areas to add a personal signature to the role including with systems and process enhancements as well as exposure to top management. Key duties for this newly opened Director of Finance position will include:
Leading the preparation of the association’s financial reporting package and related analytics
Hands on leadership of the month end close including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and preparation of the financial statements for all affiliated entities
Supervision, management and mentoring a staff of two responsible for accounting operations (A/R and A/P)
Leading the budget, forecast and planning process and working with leadership of the operating departments
Overseeing the annual external audit and act as lead liaison with outside CPA firm
Supporting the preparation of annual tax return files including form 990, 990T and other necessary federal filings
Working closely with outside departments and operations such as association membership and event planning
Supervising the payroll process and review of related payroll filings
Responsibility for regulatory filings, various lobbying reports and overseeing the association’s timekeeping system
Assisting with management of the association’s investment portfolio working with outside investment managers
Developing relationships with operational departments and providing financial as well as general business support
Performing special projects as requested by leadership

Requirements
BS Accounting or Finance (or related area) with 10 or more years of finance and accounting experience
CPA and/or MBA is a plus
Previous experience within a public accounting firm is a plus
Proven experience managing a finance and accounting staff of two or more
Prior non-profit industry experience is a plus
Hands on Excel skills including use of pivot tables and LOOKUP functions
Experience with managing a month end close and responsibility for financial reporting
Demonstrated knowledge of Great Plains, Intacct or similar level of mid-market accounting software product
