Description

Robert Half's client, the largest nonprofit public health organization, seeks a skilled Media Relations Specialist to manage earned media strategies and outreach initiatives on a temporary basis. This individual will play a crucial role in advancing public health communications by developing key messages, conducting media training, pitching impactful stories, and building and sustaining strong relationships with industry and national consumer media outlets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Earned Media Strategy: Lead the earned media strategy, crafting and executing outreach plans to enhance visibility and public engagement around the organization’s priorities.

  • Message Development: Develop key messages and provide expert media training to designated spokespeople.

  • Story Pitching: Identify and pitch compelling stories that highlight the organization’s research, public health initiatives, and education campaigns.

  • Media Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with national and industry-specific media to promote impactful coverage of public health issues.

Core Duties:

  • Research, write, and edit press materials, including communications plans, Q& As, statements, and releases.

  • Support communication efforts related to scientific research, organizational initiatives, and health education campaigns.

  • Place stories in national outlets such as NPR, CNN, and more.

  • Coordinate media interviews, securing coverage in top-tier media such as NBC News, ABC News, the TODAY Show, Good Morning America, and others.

    Requirements

  • Proven experience in media relations, preferably within public health, healthcare, or nonprofit sectors.

  • Strong writing and editing skills with experience crafting press materials, including Q& As, statements, and releases tailored for scientific or healthcare-related topics.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver key messages effectively for diverse audiences, including public health stakeholders and national media.

  • Established network within media, with a record of securing coverage in top-tier outlets (e.g., NPR, CNN, NBC News, ABC News).

  • Familiarity with healthcare industry terminology and experience communicating complex scientific or healthcare topics to a general audience.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Healthcare Communications, or a related field.
