Robert Half has a terrific opportunity for a permanent Senior Accounting position to join an innovative, growing company in the WEST DES MOINES, Iowa area. This role is responsible for evaluating investment transactions to determine the appropriate accounting elections and preparing relevant documentation evidencing rationale for conclusions reached. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for tracking, evaluating and implementing new and proposed investment-related financial accounting standards for GAAP and statutory accounting. The position is primarily project based where the individual would assist with researching and documenting the accounting treatment for new or proposed investment structures, including analyzing VIE/consolidation guidance under US GAAP and accounting/capital treatment under statutory accounting.

Researches and analyzes US GAAP and STAT accounting and reporting requirements related to pending and future investment transactions. Prepares documentation supporting conclusions reached.
Prepares detailed calculations of expected and actual impacts of pending and future investment transactions.
Tracks, researches and implements new and proposed US GAAP and STAT accounting standards and prepares policy memorandums summarizing conclusions.
Prepares detailed calculations of expected and actual impacts for new and proposed accounting standards.
Develops and helps implement controls related to new investment-related accounting standards and the onboarding of transactions.
Provides input into applicable footnote disclosures related to new investment-related accounting standards and the onboarding of investment transactions.
Assesses risk associated with accounting practices and prepares recommendations and memorandums summarizing impacts and potential solutions/options.
Works directly with external auditors related to implementation of new standards and other accounting research.
Follows developments of accounting standard setters.
Remains current on emerging changes and developments in an increasingly complex regulatory accounting environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study; plus four years of related experience in the financial services industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Public accounting experience in the insurance or financial services industry preferred.
