Robert Half Staff Accountant in Wilton, Connecticut

Description

Our client in Fairfield County is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their growing team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing financial reports to track the assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities of our reinsurance firm.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general and specific accounting functions including the preparation of journal entries, account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Aid in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements and budget performance.

  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for company and subsidiaries.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.

  • Participate in annual audits, interact with internal and external auditors, providing needed information and acting on auditor’s recommendations.

  • Aid in the design, implementation, and documentation of financial reporting procedures.

  • Document, monitor and update accounting policies. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.

  • Assist with special accounting-related projects as needed.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Staff Accountant, but internship experience will be considered for promising entry-level candidates.

  • Familiarity with accounting procedures and principles and proficiency with accounting software.

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Good understanding of MS Excel and/or some accounting ERP exposure is preferred.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
